Asterisk IP PBX Daylight Savings Time configuration with Polycom IP Phones
As we move ahead another hour in states that observe Daylight Savings Time or DST, I always seem to run into this minor issue with Polycom IP Phones. The issue is that the phone changes the time as it does not know what state it is located and whether that location observes DST.
A quick fix is to modify the mac_address-phone.cfg so that it specifies whether to observe DST or not. The modification involves a simple line and it is as follows:
tcpIpApp.sntp.daylightSavings.enable=”0″
As a reference, I have pasted a portion of the mac_address-phone.cfg and explain what each line does:
tcpIpApp.sntp.address.overrideDHCP=”1″
tcpIpApp.sntp.gmtOffset.overrideDHCP=”1″
tcpIpApp.sntp.daylightSavings.enable=”0″
tcpIpApp.sntp.address=”north-america.pool.ntp.org”
tcpIpApp.sntp.gmtOffset=”-28800″
tcpIpApp.sntp.address.overrideDHCP=”1″
This specifies the setting in this file override the Time Server hostname information provided by DHCP server
tcpIpApp.sntp.gmtOffset.overrideDHCP=”1″
This specifies the setting in this file override the Timezone or Offset information from the DHCP server
tcpIpApp.sntp.daylightSavings.enable=”0″
This specifies whether to observe DST or not and varies per location as not all states observe DST
tcpIpApp.sntp.address=”north-america.pool.ntp.org”
Since we are overriding the Time Server information from the DHCP server, a NTP server has to be speciffied
tcpIpApp.sntp.gmtOffset=”-28800″
This specifies the UTC offset in seconds and is covered in previous articles
