Asterisk PBX Timezone settings for Polycom IP Phones

Asterisk IP PBX Timezone setting for Polycom IP Phones

Recently with the DST time change, we have had many inquiries regarding DST settings for Polycom IP Phones.  Some states such as Arizona and Hawaii do not observe DST so their MAC config files need to be revised in anticipation for this.

For Arizona phones, we have to configure the MAC.conf files to show as follows:

The first line disables DST adjustment so that the phone will not change the time.  This is the case in Arizona but if the state observes DST, the value should be set to “1”.

The second line sets the DST offset for Mountain Time or DST-7.

I usually put this in a template that we use everytime a phone comes online.  There are two lines in the config file:  One for DST observing states and one for non-observing states.  When it comes down to it, we just comment out a line as needed.

TIP:  The DST offset value is in seconds.  So for Arizona, the offset will be -25200.  This is derived by multiplying 3600 (number of seconds in an hour) mutiplied by the number of hours offset.  In this case it is 3600*7=25200.
