Amazon AWS EC2 Asterisk Issue:  Voicemail to Email not working after an upgrade on AMI instance type.

At ExpressVoice PBX, we are constantly upgrading instance types to both improve the performance and reliability of our servers.  We pride ourselves in keeping more than adequate computing and bandwidth availability for our server to use.  This ensures our customers are provided with utmost quality in their hosted voice system.

One thing that commonly occurs when upgrading an instance is that the sendmail does not seem to work after the upgrade.  All other features in dialplan and custom applications, including ones that call on sendail, works fine but the voicemail does not get emailed to the end user.

After hours upon hours of troubleshooting, the solution is simply to…….

Reboot the instance by giving the following command:  shutdown -r now

The reboot of the server after the instance upgrade has an added benefit of sending all pending emails to be sent once the instance is back online.  Therefore, it is important to always reboot the instance after an AWS instance upgrade or downgrade.
